The plastic-bubble enclosed city was all they could ever want.
Disgustingly pretty and reaking of perfection, the general population couldn't ask for more. And they never tried.
They had no laws, because there was no police. There were no police because there was never a threat of a crime. You can't break a law if there aren't any to break. In place of the police were those known simply as "harmony enforcers." It was their job to find and punish those who dared to challenge the status quo of the city. No one knew what the "harmony enforcers" did to those who rebelled, because the rebels were never seen again. The people living in the city invented the idea that those rebels had been "fixed" and then re-integrated back into society in another sector or city.
The cities were numbered instead of named, as were the countries. Each city was spread into four sectors. You are born, and you stay in your birth-sector until the day you die. You do not need to see the other sectors, you do not need to see other cities. You will stay where you are and fulfil your job until you die, and another takes your place.. This is the way the population had been told things were meant to be, and if the you decided this was not the right thing, then you would be declared a rebel and the "harmony enforcers" were there to "fix" you.
But deep down, in country 27, city 62, sector 3, people were disappearing. No one knew where they were going, or what was going on, and they were told to ignore it and continue their life-work.
The people disappearing, they were disappearing through choice. They'd began to see the holes in the "perfect" world, they thought they could fix things, change the world.
A rebellion was growing, and deep down in their hearts the general population knew it too, they just didn't know whether they agreed with it.
Whether they agreed or not was unimportant, a change was coming, a change that would fix or destroy life forever.
